Team Building in Bristol

We often find ourselves heading west along the M4 motorway visiting Bristol. It is a key location for conferences and events as it is so easy to get to, and there are plenty of hotels and meeting venues to choose from in the area. You can be in the city itself, or you can choose somewhere in the surrounding area, for example the beautiful Mendip Hills, where team building events are a significant contributor to the local economy. In this location you can take part in more traditional outdoor activities such as climbing and caving, although these often do not fit the ‘something for everyone’ approach that we consider when we design all of our team building events. It is important that the events that are chosen have broad appeal, and do not just please those, for example, who enjoy serious outdoor pursuits. Our range of Country Sports, Treasure Hunts and Evening Events are all available in this location. Bristol has a long and interesting history, and many local characters who may give a meeting a sense of relevance. Bristol has much to offer, and our dedicated team will help you to choose the right event from a potentially long list of options.

Team Building Events in Bristol

Bristol is a very popular location for team building events because of its central position within the United Kingdom and because it is so easily accessed by road.  There are many good hotels in Bristol and in the surrounding area, many of which have land for activities. Our full range of team building events will be available in this area. Bristol is locally described, like Rome, as sitting on seven hills. This means that it can be challenging for extended events on foot or using mountain bikes. However, the Old City is rather beautiful, with lots of medieval buildings and features, and this is ideal for a Treasure Hunt. Head out of the city and the area is still quite hilly. The Fiat 500s that we use in The Parmesan Job will be the perfect way to explore the area. If you want to choose a really relevant event our Cyber Heist event is worth a look. Your team races against the clock to defeat a deadly virus called Psyclone 17. In Season 3 of the Amazon hit Alex Rider several Bristol locations were used; The Corn Exchange, the former Bank Of England Building and, less glamourous it must be said, wasteland under the M5!

Why Choose Bristol for Corporate Team Building

It may be that you have already chosen your conference location, but if not then Bristol could be the best fit for your delegates and also for your conference itinerary. Bristol is conveniently located for travellers from around the country. The M4 and M5 motorways are located just north of the city and the M32 drops you straight down into the city centre. The rail network is excellent and Bristol has a growing airport which serves national and international flights. Transport aside Bristol was named twice as the best city to live in, in 2014 and 2017, so there is a lot going for this location for the event organiser. Our Round The World Treasure Hunt is very suited to Bristol as it has been awarded many international honours, including the City of Film Awards. This team building event takes players to locations with international themes. Bristol is twinned with Bordeaux in France, Oporto in Portugal, Hannover in Germans and several other cities around the world. Armed with an iPad your team rushes around Bristol completing challenges with an international flavour. This is just one of the team building events that we can offer in this versatile event hotspot.

Top Three Team Building Events in Bristol

Da Vinci’s Designs in Bristol

Banksy, of course, comes from Bristol and so an art challenge is our first recommendation. Our Da Vinci’s Designs event is a fun and highly creative team building event. The aim is to create a collaborative artwork on a predetermined theme. This is often linked to current business objectives, for example; collaboration, vision, or communication. Teamwork is one of the most common choices for this exercise. Each team is equipped with a canvas, paints, brushes, and all of the other paraphernalia required to paint. Crucially we lay down plastic sheeting to protect the floor of your conference venue. Teams paint their own canvas, but it must be part of the bigger picture. All of the canvasses are put together to make one large artwork. This means that everyone contributes, and the big picture is metaphorical of the business in which each team member plays a vital role.

Animaniacs in Bristol

Aardman Animations, the studio that created Wallace and Gromit, are based in Bristol. We have an event called Animaniacs which uses the same technique of stop motion. We provide an animation studio with blue screen, an iPad loaded with filming software, and plenty of colourful clay. Your team building challenge is to create a short animated film, usually of around two to three minutes in length. You start by creating the models out of clay, and then you create the stop motion film. Themes can be fun, or you can link them to business. It is fascinating to see how team interpret the objective and communicate it in their film, and there are plenty of insights to be gained. The film is made, and then sound is overlaid. This is one of the funniest stages of the production, and for most teams it will require several takes!

Ready, Steady, Bake!

The Colston Bun is a local delicacy named after Edward Colston, a local merchant and MP.  It’s a sweet bun flavoured with spices including cinnamon, and dried fruit. If that has whet your appetite then perhaps Ready, Steady, Bake is the team building event for you. We provide a full field bakery, one station for each team, and all of the ingredients for you to bake your very own show stopper. Biscuits, cakes, and perhaps a Colston Bun if the event is in Bristol will all be on the menu as your event space fills with the delicious smells of baking. Our expert bakers will then judge your wares before awarding one team with their master baker medals. In the unlikely event that anything is left over after your event you can box it up and take it back to the office.

Outdoor Team Building Events in Bristol

Bristol has many attractions that make it ideal for a Treasure Hunt or an enhanced version of this such as the Round The World Treasure Hunt. Bristol Cathedral, Millennium Square, SS Great Britain and Cabot Tower are all within walking distance, and the Old City is a fantastic location with medieval buildings and other interesting features. If you like the idea of Country Sports the area around Bristol has plenty of locations where we could lay on team building activities such as Laser Clay Shooting, Archery and Quad Bikes. Outdoor events like The Olympic Games and It’s A Knockout can also be arranged in the vicinity. These are particularly enjoyable in the warmer months, and bring a fun sense of competition into your group not just on the day but in the build up to the event. Another popular outdoor team building event is The Rookie, which is our tribute to The Apprentice. Would your team be hired or fired?

Indoor Team Building Events in Bristol

Bristol has some iconic brands in its history. Ribena hailed from this accomplished city, and Fry’s created the first chocolate bar here in 1874. Our Chocolate Making Team Building Event may be a good choice. We bring field kitchens and all of the necessary equipment to make delicious fillings. Another of our very popular events is our Murder Mystery, which can be over a meal or without food as a morning or afternoon investigation. CSA Environmental chose this event, and our client Amanda sent in this feedback; ‘We are still talking about it! We all had such a great time and the Murder Mystery team were so good. It was one of the best Murder Mysteries I have been to. I don’t think anyone else had been to one before so they were a bit nervous but they really got into it thanks to how good the actors were’.

Evening Team Building Events in Bristol

We have a range of engaging and very enjoyable evening activities that can be run before, during or after dinner. Quizmania takes the familiar concept of a quiz and turns it into an exciting high-energy team building experience using our state of the art technology. Metrea Mission Data chose this for their event, and Claire Robertson said this; ‘We all had such a good laugh, and it wasn't what everyone was expecting (that’s a good thing!) They all enjoyed the interactive element and being able to let off some steam, some creative moments and much laughter. There were comments of ‘oh it's a quiz’ - until they found out how different it was. We would definitely do this all again. Your team were fabulous and when they explained how it all works, that was the eye opener!’ Quizmania is just one of many options, but it shows the unique quality of our events.

Icebreaker Team Building Events in Bristol

Nipper the HMV dog, famous for the His Master’s Voice photo, actually came from Bristol. So, our first recommendations for an Icebreaker team building event are musical. In this category we can offer team Drumming, serious fun with a bongo drum, Funky Junk, where you make wonderful musical with a pile of junk, and Clappity-Clap, an eye opening event which combines rhythm with rubber gloves. Bristol’s famous engineer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, also deserves a mention, not just for his fabulous name but also for his brilliance as an engineer. One of our challenges is to build a self-supporting bridge. It is no mean feat, and will leave you with a new-found respect for Brunel’s Clifton Suspension Bridge. More recently, in 1967, the first modern hot air balloon was developed in this area; The Bristol Belle. We cannot offer you hot air balloons, but our Rocket Launch event certainly deserves consideration.

Company Fun Days in Bristol

Many companies have an annual fun day as part of their event calendar. These events need not just be for employees, many are open to families and they are a great way to build rapport between employees and their company. We find the perfect location and lay on a range of activities which can include Country Sports, inflatable games such as our giant Inflatable Volleyball, and children’s entertainers and activities. We arrange all of the catering and infrastructure to give you a memorable team building event with lots of colourful photos as mementoes. Talis sent us this feedback; ‘We absolutely loved it.  We had the best time and the staff were so accommodating and jolly even though they'd be cold no doubt. Luckily the sun was shining. All the feedback was incredibly positive and I would be sure to use you again for any future team get together.’ Call us for full details of the range of Company Fun Day activities on offer.

Company Away Days in Bristol

Everyone needs an away day every so often, the chance to get away from the everyday challenges and problems of work. Bristol is the ideal location for a Company Away Day team building event. One of the city’s main attractions is Oktoberfest, the German market themed event where beer flows and sausages do their wurst. Okay, that is not a joke that works as well on the page. You could combine a visit to this festival with a Round The World Treasure Hunt. Simon from Essentra sent us this post-event feedback; ‘Everything was excellent! The group really enjoyed the challenge (they were still talking about it yesterday). Your team were very good and happy to flex with our timings.’ It is worth saying that events often do not go to plan, and itineraries sometimes fall apart. Our team on the day will always do their best to accommodate flexing timetables.

Company Team Building in Bristol

There are many company team building options to be chosen from in Bristol. One of our most popular events is our Crime Scene Investigation, which is a morning of afternoon activity. We set up a crime scene and provide professional role play actors who play the witnesses, and who will become suspects as the case unfolds. Your team dons overalls, gloves and overshoes and enters the crime scene for a fingertip search for evidence. This forensic evidence builds the case against one of the suspects. Simon sent us this feedback after his event; ‘We had an amazing time with your team. The CSI was excellent, really interesting and everyone got stuck in and interviewed or collected evidence.’ Berkmann also chose this activity; ’It was absolutely fantastic! The team who came were brilliant, so professional, really engaging and all of our attendees loved the team task.’ Call us to discuss this, and our other team building event.

Competitive Team Building Events in Bristol

Respectful competition can be very healthy in corporate culture. One man who reached the top of his game and knew something about competition and respect was actor Cary Grant. He said; ‘probably no greater honour can come to any man than the respect of his colleagues.’ Cary grant was born Archibald Alexander Leach in Bristol. Our team building events are the perfect way to garner healthy competition, with fun activities and winning scores. The winning team get gold medals. Well, gold coloured medals.  The CPS enjoyed two of our very competitive options, and David Lean, the organiser, sent us this evaluation; ‘huge thanks to The Team Building Company for a fantastic afternoon of Crystal Challenge and Egg Toss. The team on the ground were super friendly and the comms from the Sales team leading up to the event were great too. I've had loads of positive comments on the event from everyone at work. ‘

Creative Team Building Events & Activities in Bristol

We have already mentioned Aardman Productions, Banksy and the creative genius of Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Something creative is definitely going on in Bristol. Comedians Lee Evans, Stephen Merchant and Russell Howard all come from the city, and are not ashamed of their local accents. David Prowse, the body builder, and no less than Darth Vader, also came from Bristol. It may be that this sort of team building event is right for your team, and that some of this local creative energy will rub off on you. The options are plentiful; Cuisine Team cooking, Molecular Cooking with foams, smoke and bubbles, or perhaps Together We Can, which involves a variety of challenges which individual teams work on together to achieve a combined result. Many of our events have an element of creativity, and if this is the objective of your event we can focus in on it to make it a primary objective.

Charity Team Building Events in Bristol

Charity Team Building Events combine the benefits of team building with the rewarding satisfaction of meeting your corporate social responsibility objectives. We will work with local charities in Bristol to arrange the perfect day for your team. One example is our Charity Skateboard Build. We provide all of the equipment and materials for you to launch your own skateboard manufacturing factory. Each skateboard must be assembled to a standard that passes our meticulous event manager’s requirements. They must be decorated, with each becoming a unique work of art. The finished articles are then distributed to charitable organisations and not-for-profit causes. Our Tour de Team cycling event can also have a charitable aspect, with teams donating their bikes at the end of the session. Brighton, with its undulating landscape, is very popular as a cycling destination, and so this event carries added local relevance. Call us with your CSR goals, and we will suggest a fitting team building event.
