The Staycation
Why do holidays capture our imagination and why are we obsessed with creating new experiences for ourselves and our families? Our history is one of pioneering. We are forever searching and striving for those perfect moments we will remember for the rest of our lives.
The annual paid holiday is a fairly new phenomenon in our history. Holidays really came into their own in the 20th century. By the outbreak of war in 1939, over 200 holiday camps were developed at different U.K. seaside locations. Harry Warner and Billy Butlin were the main players in this development.
The majority of UK residents were already used to the “staycation”, holidaying in their country of residence. When did the term “staycation” arrive in our vocabulary? It is attributed to a Canadian comedian, Brent Butt, in 2005.
The four home nations which make up the United Kingdom are packed full of fabulous experiences, scenery, beaches, restaurants and travel by air is not needed. Air travel is by far the biggest contributor to climate change. By holidaying in the U.K. you are helping the environment!
Holidaying in the U.K. takes the stress out of sorting out all of the passports and documents for the family and there is no need to sort out foreign currency.
