The Commonwealth Games!
Here goes!!!
At the time of writing this blog there are only two days to go before the opening ceremony to be held at the refurbished and upgraded Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. For those of you who were lucky enough to secure tickets in the public ticket ballot, tickets are still available for some of the 20 sports being contested. There will be 283 medal events and over 4,500 competitors.
These games are the 22nd Commonwealth Games with 72 commonwealth countries participating. The games will open on the 28th July and finish on the 8th/9th August.
Now for the history bit…….
Birmingham was announced as host on 21st December 2017, marking England’s third time hosting the Commonwealth Games after London in 1934 and Manchester in 2002. These are the seventh games to be held in the United Kingdom after London and Manchester. The cities of Cardiff (1958) Edinburgh (1970 and 1986) and Glasgow (2014) have all hosted previous Commonwealth Games.
Every Commonwealth Games has a mascot and Birmingham 2022 is no different. The official mascot for these games is Perry, a multi-coloured bull, designed by Emma Lou from Bolton.
With 95% of the competition venues already in place, Birmingham 2022 aims to be both prudent and innovative. Prudent and innovative are both qualities that we here at The TeamBuilding Company strive to deliver in all our events Just like the Commonwealth Games Foundation, The TeamBuilding Company offers the opportunity to demonstrate the powers of sport, to unlock our human potential and transform lives, one step at a time.
