Using Tuckman's Theory In Practice
Team building activities can be very useful in explaining Tuckman's Forming Storming Norming Performing theory to participants. This can be achieved in a relatively short session, even just half a day.
It's important that the challenge the team faces is not familiar to them. Our Crystal Challenge activities work very well for this sort of event. The team is faced with an unfamiliar task and must quickly go through the Tuckman stages of Storming and Norming in order to get to the stage when they can Perform.
With some groups teams can be split up so that people are working with each other for the first time. This is very useful as the Forming stage can be experienced.
